Everything you know about death certificates is probably wrong. Most people can go their entire lives without a birth certificate but without a proper death certificate, things can often go wrong quickly. This talk will discuss the importance of death certificates as legal documents and public health tools as well as provide an overview of the process of determining cause of death for legal purposes.
Jay Stahl-Herz, MD is a board-certified forensic pathologist working full-time as a medical examiner and independent forensic consultant. He holds academic appointments at New York University School of Medicine and SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. He has several published journal articles and book chapters and has presented at various national meetings and training courses. He is a fellow of the National Association of Medical Examiners. He has consulted for the United Nations and worked in many other nations.
