Stage managed by Heather Bellingham.
Fat Pig tells the story of Tom, a stereotypical professional in a large city, who falls for a very plus-size librarian named Helen. Tom is instantly taken with Helen's brash acceptance of the way people see her and her honesty. I mean why wouldn't he be taken with Helen? She's smart, she's pretty, and she has a great sense of humor. A couple of weeks after Tom and Helen begin dating, Carter, Tom's best friend, starts to notice the signs of Tom having a new girlfriend. He obnoxiously pesters Tom for information about the new girl and in order to get it mentions it in front of Jeannie, a woman from accounting, who has been seeing Tom on-and-off for a while, and despite what Tom's coworkers think he continues to date Helen until things take a turn. Does Tom follow his heart or does he give in to his coworkers and what society promotes as being the "right thing to do?"
What would it take for you to stand up and defend the person you love when it's the opposite of everything you've been told?
Fat Pig; not the trajectory of your average romantic comedy, but then Neil LaBute's notions of relationships aren't exactly hearts and flowers.
