One Root, Many Branches
MUNTU DANCE THEATRE PRESENTS ITS FALL CONCERT & GALA 'ONE ROOT, MANY BRANCHES' DECEMBER 12th & 13th REVA & DAVID LOGAN CENTER FOR THE ARTS 910 E. 60th STREET
The production 'One Root, Many Branches,' is an evening of work that explores the connectedness of the dance and music of people of African descent in Jamaica, Brazil and the United States from the perspective of their common ancestral root. The performance includes the world premiere by internationally renowned choreographer Christopher Walker.
'MANIFEST,' the work is a conversation between contemporary expressions and traditional practices. The work affirms a space where contemporary expressions appear as manifestations of deep African traditional movement practices that continue to inform the physical relationship to space and time in the contemporary present and the imagined future.
Saturday night's performance is a tribute to Muntu's President Joan Gray who is retiring at the end of the year. The evening begins at 7pm with the production, followed by Gala Dinner Reception.
