Crude Civility
New York, NY--- On Friday, May 4, 2012 at 8 PM & Saturday, May 5th, 2012 at 9 PM, choreographer Anne H. Goldberg and the Synthesis Aesthetics Project present Crude Civility, a premiere of their latest evening-length work, developed at the Emerging Artist's Residency program at The Field. The performances are $15 general admission, $10 for students and seniors, available at Brown Paper Tickets or at the door. This world premiere of Crude Civility will be performed by dancers Anne H. Goldberg, Kate Ladenheim, Katie Martin, Anna Brown Massey, Danielle Schauderlaff, and Tara Sheena, as well as musicians Kevin Baldwin, digeridoo, Martha Cargo, flute, and Charlotte Mundy, soprano with Carlos Cordeiro, electronics, all of whom have been collaborating on this project since its inception.
Choreographer Goldberg explains, "The work focuses on perception -- how people see and view each other, how we interact, what in our behavior is societal and instinctual." Inspired by the tension between manners and the id, the performance will be in the round, which will promote not only an intimate experience but also will give the audience a more visceral response to the work. Appropriate for teens and older. Excerpts have been presented by Works in Progress at Dance New Amsterdam, as well as by the Field at The Kitchen as part of the residency. Last season, the Synthesis Aesthetics Project presented an evening-length work at Manhattan Movement and Art Center, and Goldberg's choreography has been featured at Symphony Space, Merce Cunningham Studio, Alvin Ailey Studio, Dance New Amsterdam, and at University Settlement. Original costuming by Mark Eric Design and lighting design by Amith Chandrashaker create a unique and provocative canvas that highlights the movement.
