Reel Rasquache Art & Film Festival 2012
Bringing together independent filmmakers from across the country, with Latino advocates in the entertainment industry, the Reel Rasquache Art & Film Festival showcases films by or about the U.S. Latino experience in all genres and formats. This includes animation, dramatic and documentary shorts and features, experimental works, webisodes, and, introducing this year, a forum on cell phone filmmaking. In addition to around-the-clock film programs, the weekend-long festival will include live music and dance, a Youth Filmmakers' Showcase, filmmaking workshops, directors' roundtable, an art exhibit, networking receptions, and the annual closing night award ceremony that recognizes leaders, pioneers, and trailblazers in U.S. Latino film and art.
The 9th Annual Reel Rasquache Art & Film Festival will take place May 18-20, 2012 at CASA 0101 Theater in Boyle Heights.

____________________________ CARTAS A ELENA
In the beautiful hills of Copper Canyon in Chihuahua, Mexico, a young boy, Emilio is adopted by Teo the mailman. As part of their daily tasks, they not only deliver the mail but read the letters to the villagers, as well as take dictation, since most are illiterate. Young Emilio quickly learns to read and write but feels saddened by the mostly difficult stories sent by villagers that moved to the US in pursuit of better futures. One day Teo becomes disabled and Emilio takes over the mail route and with great imagination, he changes the letters to happy and optimistic stories. Within days the village is transformed. While on duty, Emilio meets a young girl named Elena who becomes his first love.
