Knoxville Horror Film Festival 7
The Knoxville Horror Film Fest will present its seventh deadly weekend of scare-friendly cinema on October 23-25, bringing the genre film festival experience to East Tennessee with a slate of premier indie horror features and a barrage of unique shorts from around the region and around the world.
This year's festival will kick off Friday night at Regal Downtown West, return for an all-day marathon of screenings on Saturday, then wrap up across town on Sunday afternoon with two additional film screenings and an awards ceremony & 80s-horror-themed costume party at Market Square's Scruffy City Hall.
KHFF has upped the ante each year since its single-evening 2009 debut, and 2015 will be no exception, packing the weekend with seven handpicked feature presentations. This year's lineup includes the hotly anticipated anthology TALES OF HALLOWEEN, featuring segments by genre favorites like Lucky McKee, Neil Marshall and Darren Lynn Bousman; the twisted psychological thriller SUN CHOKE, starring scream queen Barbara Crampton; the crowd-pleasing post-apocalyptic pastiche TURBO KID; the recent 4K restoration of Tobe Hooper's 1974 game-changer THE TEXAS CHAIN SAW MASSACRE; the demons n' death metal New Zealand horror comedy DEATHGASM; 1989's dangerously fun and criminally overlooked DEATH SPA; and the haunted house chiller INTERIOR, the culmination of director Zachary Beckler's KHFF-prizewinning shorts "Seance" and "Where Is Alice".
As always, the festival will also feature hours of short films, programmed before each feature and into separate blocks on Saturday. (The short film lineup will be announced along with the final festival schedule in early October.)
Saturday night will also premiere the locally-made trailers comprising the fifth annual Grindhouse Grind-Out Filmmaking Contest. The de facto main event of KHFF for many of Knoxville's wildest creative types, the Grind-Out pits teams against each other to produce over-the-top movie trailers based on a lottery of genres from 'Spaghetti Western' to current media darling 'Sharksploitation'. The audience is invited to vote for their favorites, with winners announced alongside a variety of jury awards on Sunday night... as well as a special award from VHS horror stalwart Donald Farmer!
