the tools of unmaking
AIM: Artists in Motion Shotwell Sudios, SF
Footloose presents "the tools of unmaking choreographers and visual artists on the practice of presence"
featuring installations by Hope Mohr (choreographer) & Tracy Taylor Grubbs (painter) Sasha Petrenko (sculptor) Christian Burns (choreographer)
Choreographer Hope Mohr with visual artist Tracy Taylor Grubbs, has curated an evening of installations where artmaking and awareness intersect before a live audience. Using paper, ink and the body as mark-making, Mohr and Grubbs ask, "What is the difference between an intuitive and a rational mark?"
Choreographer Christian Burns gives form to the intimate and simple act of seeing and being seen by another. Burns asks, "where are we located; where is the movement coming from; how can we be truly seen; what does it mean to perform; and are contradictions ok?"
Visual artist Sasha Petrenko will present her "Instructions for Movement with Furniture" with a set of instructions intended to facilitate a deeper relationship between the body and objects. Petrenko's installation asks the audience, "How might our lives be enhanced by a greater understanding of where, how and by whom our objects are made?"
