Cousteau's Legacy: America's Underwater Treasures
Marine biologist Holly Lohuis, field producer and executive coordinator for Jean-Michel Cousteau, will present videos on the Hearst Castle Theater giant screen and discuss her work. She has been diving into oceans around the world with Jean-Michel Cousteau for more than ten years. As a leader of his Ocean Futures Society expedition team, she works with filmmakers and scientists, both in the water and on land. In this presentation about National Marine Sanctuaries, she'll show video from the PBS documentary America's Underwater Treasures and other photography.
Three National Marine Sanctuaries protect the natural resources along California's coast. The Monterey NMS stretches from north of the Golden Gate Bridge to Cambria. The elephant seal rookery at Piedras Blancas is in the sanctuary.
Friends of the Elephant Seal invited Ms. Lohuis to present her video and photographs about the ocean and share her experiences with the public.
Before the program, guests will enjoy Cal Poly cheese while visiting with representatives of other local ocean organizations. Lesson plans available to teachers and homeschoolers.
