Row to Canada Benefit Concert featuring Butterfly Rodeo
"Row to Canada Fundraiser and Adventure' The row to Canada event, set to take place during the first two weeks of August 2012, ( depending on the tides), has been conceived in the spirit of adventure and camaraderie, in memory of a deceased friend, and in order to rally funds for a valuable cause. The intention of the rowers and those supporting the event is to see through to completion a journey by row boat from Vaughn Bay spit, (NE corner of Case Inlet in Puget Sound, WA) to a point beyond the Canadian Boarder, replicating the journey that Mark Smith (a.k.a. Smitty) and Rick Clark ( Freemont resident) made shortly after graduating from high school in 1970. Mark died in 2009 as the result of Lou Gehrig's disease ( amyotrophic lateral sclerosis). Thus an important aim of the Row to Canada event is to raise funds for the fight against ALS. The music ensemble, Butterfly Rodeo ( www.gaelica.us) will perform a benefit concert at the Freemont Abbey Arts Center to raise funds for the Row to Canada event. Joining Gaelica as an opening artist will be Molly Baukham of 'Dusty Strings' on harp and celtic song.
