"Joe Sacco's brilliant excruciating books of war reportage are potent territory" (The New York Times Book Review).
Joe Sacco is widely believed to be the creator of war-reportage comics, and is author of American Book Award winner "Palestine" (1996), and "Safe Area Goražde, The War in Eastern Bosnia 1992-95," which won the Eisner Award and was a New York Times Notable Book, and Time magazine's best comic book of 2000. "Footnotes in Gaza" (2009) recently won the Oregon Book Award.
Born in Malta and raised in Australia, Los Angeles and Portland, Sacco has an international reputation. His books are available in 14 languages and his work has appeared in many publications including Details, The New York Times Magazine, Time, and Harper's.
"Sacco's art has the power to detain us, to keep us from impatiently wandering off in order to follow a catch-phrase or a lamentably predictable narrative of triumph and fulfillment" (Edward Said, 2001).
