The Zoo Story
CAST: Peter - Rob Gustison Jerry - Devon Scalisi
SYNOPSIS: This one-act play concerns two characters, Peter and Jerry. Peter is a middle-class publishing executive with a wife, two daughters, two cats and two parakeets. Jerry is an isolated and disheartened man. These men meet on a park bench in New York City's Central Park. Jerry is desperate to have a meaningful conversation with another human being. He intrudes on Peter's peaceful state by interrogating him and forcing him to listen to stories like "THE STORY OF JERRY AND THE DOG", and the reason behind his visit to the zoo. The action is linear, unfolding in front of the audience in "real time". The elements of ironic humor and unrelenting dramatic suspense are brought to a climax when Jerry brings his victim down to his own savage level.
PRODUCTION HISTORY: From 2006 to 2009, this initial production of Edward Albee's THE ZOO STORY was developed by Anthony Goes and Devon Scalisi, and directed by Ted Clement as an actor's piece. Rob Gustison supplied the production with technical skills in the Stage Management and Blood Tech department. For over four years, this showing of THE ZOO STORY was performed several times to audiences in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Stepping in for Anthony Goes, as Peter in 2011, was Rob Gustison in his first performance of the production. Now six years since the original creation, Devon Scalisi, as Jerry, couldn't be any more excited to step into the shoes of his favorite character piece once more time for a Boston debut; one run only.
CREDENTIALS: Devon Scalisi (Jerry) is a national award-winning director and regional award-winning actor. His recent credits include directing the new play "SMUDGE," written by Rachel Axler (former writer for the Daily Show w/ John Stewart, Parks and Recreation, and FOX's The New Girl), who he worked with at The Eugene O'Neill Foundation on a finishing draft of the script. Devon's directed production of SMUDGE was a multi-award-winning run through MA and NH. Prior to that, Devon was given the New Hampshire Theater Awards "Best Actor" nod for his portrayal of Lord Henry in David Preece's original adaptation of "THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY." The Zoo Story is Devon's favorite play.
