Women WiLL Rock
"Women Will Rock" is a benefit concert in support of United Way's WILL Program(Women Living Leadership.) The mission of WiLL is to improve women and children's lives by mobilizing the caring power of women. WiLL capitalizes on the strength of women as philanthropists, advocates and volunteers. It offers the opportunity to step forward and use heart, head and hands engendering change and making investments at critical transition points where systems fail and life keeps moving. A small sampling of WiLL Programs include: Camp Luna, Rose Circle a rites of passage camp for middle and high school girls. Volunteers spend a week with the girls at Earth Teach Camp; Dunn House Rental Assistance, Community Works provides rent deposits for single women leaving Dunn House; Families for Community, Arc of Jackson County partners parents of children with disabilities with mentor parents. "Women Will Rock" will present a lineup of professional female musicians forming a band and the focus of the music will be empowerment. Each of the band members is a bandleader in her own right and will take a turn at leading the band while everyone plays a supportive role. The core members are: Teri Cote on drums and vocals, Leah Hinchcliff on Bass and vocals, B. Wishes on electric guitar and vocals, Alice DiMicele on acoustic guitar and vocals, and Cilette Swan on vocals. Special guest appearances by Inger Jorgenson, Shae Johnson, Crystal Reeves, and some of the young high school talent from the area will also be featured. A string quartet made up of girls from the local youth orchestra will be playing while concert goers arrive at the theatre.
