Tammy Faye Starlite in "Cabaret Marianne" at Pangea
TAMMY FAYE STARLITE SET TO TRANSFORM PANGEA SUPPER CLUB INTO
CABARET MARIANNE EVERY THURSDAY IN OCTOBER - PERFORMING THE MUSIC OF MARIANNE FAITHFUL WITH BARRY REYNOLDS, RICHARD FERIDUN and DAVID DUNTON.

Cabaret Marianne traces the evolution of the subject from '60s pop ingénue ("As Tears Go By") through her drug addiction in the '70s, her explorations as a "heroine" of country-folk ("The Day That Coke Came to Nashville") to her emergence as a respected artist on her own terms in the '80s with the landmark release of Broken English.  Cabaret Marianne also touches on Faithfull's forays into Weimar era material, an homage to her Austro-Judeo ancestry, and her contemporary role as grand doyenne, reflecting the dark heart of the millennial macrocosm.

Tammy was drawn to Marianne Faithfull because "she resonates so deeply," offering that Broken English is "the wild and elegant cry of a woman unleashed, an id on the run, steeped in glorious decadence and transcendent redemption."  She adds, "There is beauty, hunger and truth in every note she sings, unafraid to voice her need and her joy.   I'm honored to give it and the other significant elements of Marianne's repertoire the performance platform they so richly deserve, especially with Barry Reynolds whose playing is so brilliant."

Set for Thursdays October 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 7:30 PM, these Cabaret Marianne performances feature Faithfull's long time collaborator and Broken English co-composer Barry Reynolds who recalls the first time he backed up Tammy in a Marianne Faithfull portrayal, "She was doing a great impersonation of Marianne and then started talking to the audience, and I said, 'Wow! This is something completely different and not what I expected.' It was like I was in the audience, too, like, 'What the hell is going on here?' But I thought she was fascinatingvery quick, and topical, as well. Smart as a whip. She really studied the tapes, even ones that I'd played on and never heard, and I went, 'What the f**k is that?' And after getting to know her, I really like her. She's a wonderful lady and a joy to work with."

"Now, as Marianne Faithfull, British pop's queen of survival, Starlite resurrects 1979's Broken English as a thoroughly modern tale of adventure, abyss and hard-won vengeance  one of the most brutally frank albums of its time, made flesh again. Tammy Faye impressed me with a performance like few others. No, she did not attempt to replicate Marianne's gentle voice from the sixties, nor what was left of her vocal cords after years of heavy smoking. Instead, Tammy used her own voice and her own phrasing to perform ten of Marianne's best-known songs, and - to Tammy's credit - her renditions still sounded a bit like Marianne's
originals."
