NCTC Presents HOLY DAYS by Sally Nemeth
Holy Days is a deeply American story about one of the most significant times of the twentieth century, as it concerns a Kansas family in the 1930's trying to survive what is now known as the 'Black Blizards'. Couples Gant and Rosie and Molly and Will wrestle with the day to day of an existence short on hope and long on bad luck.  Living in close proximity, the characters engage with each other with a humanity that we almost can't bear to watch, yet can certainly all admire. In our own American days of economic and emotional confusion when the concerns of work and class are paramount, Holy Days is a story of perseverance, an 80 minute tone poem with community, sacrifice, endurance and hope at its core.

What brought about the production was the deep need to tell this story, at this time in our country. Artistic Director Hans Altwies says, "We have, in these characters, a quiet might that makes me blush. I keep doing a sort of double take at the way Gant deals with his unbearable grief'." Amy Thone adds, "It's a play about the unwillingness to walk away". Cast member Darragh Kennan finds it fascinating that this piece is the opposite of The Grapes of Wrath. "In the face of impossible odds, during this horrible time in our country's history, when so many people leave, these people stick it out, they persevere. We know the other story...but what happens when you stay?"

Starring Jennifer Lee Taylor, Amy Thone, Darragh Kennan and Hans Altwies, and directed by Paul Morgan Stetler, this consciously spare production will be designed by Jennifer Lupton (Set), Andrew D. Smith (Lights), Kimberly Newton (Costumes) and Colin Byrne (Sound) at the glorious old log cabin now named the Raisbeck Performance Hall on the Cornish College of the Arts campus.

There will be no late seating; please arrive with plenty of time.  NCTC is an Associated Program of Shunpike.
