The Village Playhouse presents: A Raisin in The Sun
The Village Playhouse presents A Raisin In The Sun by Lorraine Hansberry. This show runs Fridays and Saturdays February 5th 20th at 7:30PM with a Sunday matinee on February 21st at 2:00PM.
Set on Chicago's South Side, A Raisin In The Sun revolves around the divergent dreams and conflicts within three generations of the Younger family: son Walter Lee, his wife Ruth, his sister Beneatha, his son Travis and matriarch Lena.
When her deceased husband's insurance money comes through, Mama Lena Younger dreams of moving to a new home and a better neighborhood in Chicago. Walter Lee, a chauffeur, has other plans, however: buying a liquor store and being his own man. Beneatha dreams of medical school. The tensions and prejudice they face form this seminal American drama. Sacrifice, trust and love among the Younger family and their heroic struggle to retain dignity in a harsh and changing world are a searing and timeless document of hope and inspiration...
Directed by Rubin Whitmore II, the cast includes Corey Wilson as Walter, Tina Nixon as Ruth, Azeeza Islam as Lena, Ashley Jordan as Beneatha, Josh McConnell as Travis, Adeola Giwa as Joseph Asagai, Quentin Lutrell as George Murchison, Scott Sorenson as Karl Linder and Mario Andre as Bobo.
Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for students or seniors. They can be reserved in advance by emailing RaisinInTheSun@villageplayhouse.org or calling (414) 207-4VPW. Tickets are also available for purchase through Brown Paper Tickets at VPWRaisinInTheSun.brownpapertickets.com
