Mad Jenny and the Society Band presents Love Und Greed
Love Und Greed features songs from life in Berlin from the 1920s and 1930s by Mischa Spoliansky, Brecht/Weill, Brecht/Eissler, Claire Waldoff and more, they are about love, money, gender and surviving all of this in the city, in a time of great uncertainty and danger. It may well be our time too.
Jenny Lee Mitchell lived and performed for many years in Vienna, Munich, Hamburg and Berlin although she is a native New Yorker and attended the Experimental Theater Wing at NYU. She performed in operetta, musical theater and cabaret productions abroad and after returning home has performed off broadway and with many companies who present works based in clown, music, cabaret and devised theater styles.
Credits include : Outside Inn at 59East59, The Curse of The Mystic Renaldo The and Vaclav Havel's Hunt For A Pig at 3LD, The Last Cyclist, When Clowns Play Hamlet at LaMama. Ich Liebe Jesus, Europe and Regional: Dance Of The Vampires directed by Roman Polanski, Falsettos, Jekyll And Hyde, Ruddigore, Wonderland, Yeomen Of The Guard, Ludwig II and Mozart the Musical. Jenny has become greatly interested in works created and performed in the concentration camp Theresienstadt and has performed programs of this material with Untitled theater Company #61 at various consulates and centers. She also translates many of the songs in the Mad Jenny repertoire from german into English.
Maria Dessena has served as Music Director for various theater productions, rock ensembles and cabaret shows, most recently including The Pig, or Vaclav Havel's Hunt for a Pig at 3LD Art & Technology Center , Money Lab (Love und Greed: featuring Mad Jenny and the Society Band) at H.E.R.E. Arts Center and Robert Honeywell's Mass at the Brick Theater. She regularly collaborates with a number of New York performers, specializing in multi-language European cabaret acts. Also a skilled composer and arranger, Maria's transcriptions and arrangements have been published by Woody Guthrie Publications and The Richmond Organization. Her arrangements for rock and jazz orchestra are performed regularly at various NYC nightlife events such as Eric Schmalenberger's Blunderland and the Oh! You Pretty Things glam rock series at Le Poisson Rouge. Maria graduated from Indiana University School of Music in 2000.
