Gender Reel is a coast-to-coast, traveling film and art event dedicated to enhancing the visibility of gender non-conforming, gender variant/queer and transgender people, identities and experiences. Our goal is to present narratives in film & art that push the boundaries of the gender binary system. Through this means, we hope to empower filmmakers and artists to create work reflective of this mission by providing an accessible and embracing platform where their work can be showcased.
This year marks the 5th anniversary of the Gender Reel Film Festival and its premiere in Boston. The festival will run two evenings in Boston, September 30 and October 1, 2015 in the auditorium of the Fenway Community Health Center on Boylston Street in Boston.
The festival will open with a reception and then a screening of the documentary "Kate Bornstein is a Queer and Pleasant Danger." Director, producer and editor Sam Feder will be present to introduce his film and then participate in a question & answer period after its screening.
The festival will close the next night with a screening of "Eden's Garden," an Internet series about socially relevant issues told from the point of view of Black and Latino transgender men in New York City. Seven King, creator, writer, director and producer of the series, will introduce the first episode and will then participate in a question & answer period after its screening. Trailers for the next two episodes will be shown followed by a discussion about the series with Seven King and cast member Kamar Porter of Boston. There will then be an after-party at a nearby restaurant.
This event is free. IDs will not be checked. Attendees can use a name that is comfortable for them when registering.
BOTH NIGHTS OF THE FESTIVAL ARE SOLD OUT
Walk-ins may be able to get "no show" empty seats. Walk-ins can enter the screening after registered attendees have been seated.
