Tucked away in the far northern reaches of Italy's Lombardy region is the wine-growing district of Valtellina. Situated in the Rhaetian Alps on the border with Switzerland, Valtellina is the quintessential mountain wine region. The valley runs almost perfectly east-west, with vines planted on sunny, south-facing slopes. Here, the Nebbiolo grape, known locally as Chiavennasca, produces age-worthy wines with notable similarities to the wines of neighboring Barolo and Barbaresco in Piedmont. One of the leading producers in this small region is Ar.Pe.Pe, cleverly named after its founder, Arturo Pelizzatti Perego, who started the winery in 1984 with the goal of realizing the full potential of the unique Valtellina terroir. Today, Arturo's children, Isabella, Emanuele, and Guido continue their father's work as the fifth generation of winemakers and growers. Please join us at Spruce as we welcome Isabella Pelizzatti, who will share her family's wines with us, paired with a special menu crafted by Chefs Mark Sullivan and John Madriaga.
