Sybarite5's final residency concert in Chelsea
For Immediate Release: May 2 2012, New York, NY
Sybarite5's final residency concert in Chelsea featuring a world premiere version by Dan Visconti & a new addition to the Radiohead Remixed Project
Acclaimed string quintet Sybarite5, winner of the 2011 Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, perform on May 19 at the cell. The concert includes a unique collaboration with video projection artist David Adam Moore, and a quintet premiere by Dan Visconti. This will mark Sybarite5's final New York City appearance before their official debut at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall on November 13 2012.
The culmination of a two-year residency at the cell, this concert fuses Sybarite5's Radiohead Remixed Project with the video projection art of David Adam Moore. Moore uses digital mapping to design video projections that are timed and tailored specifically to Sybarite5's performances. Also featured on the program will be the World Premiere of the string quintet version of Dan Visconti's Dixie Twang, commissioned by Sybarite5. Visconti, a prominent young composer based in Washington, DC, is also being commissioned to write a concerto for the ensemble.
"SYBARITE5 is a New Yorkbased group of gifted young string musicians who have gained a reputation for juxtaposing the likes of Stravinsky with Radiohead, or Dvorák with Led Zeppelin. But that doesn't even begin to describe the range of their eclecticism or the depth of their repertoire." - Greg Cahill, Strings Magazine
Comprised of Sami Merdinian and Sarah Whitney, violins; Angela Pickett, viola; Laura Metcalf, cello and Louis Levitt, bass, Sybarite5 has recently performed at the Library of Congress, Lincoln Center, Time Warner Center, Galapagos Artspace, the Apple Store, Tishman auditorium, and many other venues nationwide. Their most recent album, Disturb the Silence, reached the top 10 on the Billboard Charts. Sybarite5 serves as the official Alumni Ensemble for the Aspen Music Festival.
