Trey Gunn & Beth Fleenor DUETS
Longtime friends Beth Fleenor (Kultur Shock/Wayne Horvitz) and Trey Gunn (King Crimson/Tu) come together for this special, one-night only performance. Using their usual respective artillery (Fleenor on clarinets, voice & electronics and Gunn on touch guitar) as well as other found objects, the duo will improvise an evening length concert at the Chapel Performance Space.
The two originally met when Fleenor went to work administratively for Gunn's multimedia storytelling project, Quodia, and went on to develop a lasting friendship out of the work. Based in common perspective about the powerful role art can play in the development and catharsis of the individual, the duo brings a deeply rooted sense of universal connection, compassion and communication to the sonic playground.
This event is the fourth of a series of improvised collaborations Fleenor has been instigating over the last year, as a means to communicate more deeply with congruent voices. She offers, "So often, I brush against other artists coming from a similar place and get fueled and energized by their individual perspective, despite only getting to chat here and there or observe each other's work. In many instances, whether it be hectic scheduling or lack of need for a new project, there is no opportunity to really commune together with the language that brought us together in the first place - music. These improvised concerts offer the chance to really see, hear and learn from each other through the improvised medium. I consider them ongoing conversations. "
Gunn adds, "Even after 43 years of playing and performing, I still find improvisation to be a terrifying and dubious path to Music. And yet, it can be the most direct one. I look forward to seeing what comes from jumping into the fires with Beth."
This one-time performance is not to be missed.
