Joseph Keckler at Pangea
Comfortable singing opera arias in a rich bass baritone, intoning original torch songs in an eerie falsetto, or delivering dense and humorous stream-of-consciousness monologues, Joseph Keckler made his off-broadway debut this summer at Lincoln Center Theater, playing Chaliapin in Dave Malloy's Preludes. The "best downtown performance artist" (Village Voice) returns downtown for an intimate performance at Pangea in which he will experiment with new songs and deliver a few favorites. He will be joined by jazz pianist Matt Ray and violinist Dan Bartfield.
Joseph Keckler is a singer, monologist, and interdisciplinary artist. His performance piece, I am an Opera, was commissioned by Dixon Place. Keckler's work has been featured on BBC America and WNYC Soundcheck. The recipient of a Franklin Furnace Grant and a Fellowship in Interdisciplinary Work from New York Foundation for the Arts, he has been awarded multiple residencies at MacDowell and Yaddo. He is currently working on a new EP and a collection of essays.
