Hyperreality Show: A Few Plays on the Media and Popular Culture
Join us this summer at Milwaukee's Tenth Street Theatre for a collection of plays themed around how people live and engage with a culture saturated in digital media and entertainment. The plays include--
"Brad and Mr. Sorkin Write a Movie": Two screenwriters clash over the direction of Columbia's next film on tech startups
"A Group of People Have a Conversation about Science and Religion Over the Internet": a fierce debate, with dialogue lifted entirely from the questionable comments section of a real YouTube video
"Telenoverla": A wealthy family must protect their estate from an impending pirate attack in this parody of a Mexican telenovela
"Fairytale Ending": Prince Caleb and Princess Polaria, the Disney-esque royalty of the Brightforest Kingdom, confront harsh realities about their marriage
Hyperreality Show is written and directed by Sean Douglass, and stars Alex Johnson, Jolie LeBell, Joe Picchetti, Nate Press, Elodie Senetra, and Mitch Weindorf.
Presented by Stagecloud, a new theater company that is also a digital streaming service, Hyperreality Show will be available online for Stagecloud subscribers soon after the close of the live production. It will also be one of the first new plays ever distributed digitally for televised viewing when it becomes available on Stagecloud's personal Roku channel this fall.
