Bricolage presents Key to the Field
AND THE WINNER IS BRICOLAGE is proud to present the winner of our 2006 STAGED READING PERFORMANCE SERIES: resident playwright David Turkels KEY TO THE FIELD.
Every year, March through August BRICOLAGE assembles six dynamic plays for our annual STAGED READING PERFORMANCE SERIES, a wildly successful free series designed to showcase new plays and re-imagined classics, develop our audience base, and push artistic boundaries by challenging local and national theater artists to risk their creative necks. Each month showcases a different play. The artists are given a week to put the play on its feet and present it, book-in-hand, with minimal design elements, over two evenings. At the end of the six-month series, through an Internet survey, BRICOLAGE asks our audience to choose which play they would most like to see fully realized. Whichever play receives the most enthusiastic response becomes a future Bricolage production.
Voted 2006 audience favorite, KEY TO THE FIELD is a vision from the prolific pen of BRICOLAGE resident playwright, David Turkel. A controversial schoolteacher wakes in the middle of the night to find a brick thrown through the picture window of his suburban home. Things get worse when a police officer arrives and, instead of investigating, takes him hostage. Written to mirror the work of painter Rene Magritte, KEY TO THE FIELD is a surrealist thrill-ride through the twisted landscape of the American dream. Featuring: Tami Dixon, Martin Giles and Sam Turich. Directed by Jed Allen Harris.
KEY TO THE FIELD opens Wednesday September 19th and runs through Sunday October 7th at BRICOLAGE space 937 Liberty Avenue first floor, WED-SUN at 8PM. Tickets are $15. For more information contact tami@webbricolage.org or call 412-381-6999.
BRICOLAGE Mission and Artistic Vision Making artful use of whats at hand, BRICOLAGE uses the distinctive resources of the Pittsburgh region to create theatrical events that stimulate a heightened sense of involvement for the audience.
What excites BRICOLAGE is the connection and interaction between seemingly disparate elements. Whats at hand not only refers to the definition of the word BRICOLAGE, but also to existing sites within our citys changing landscape and to human and material resources. Whats at hand can also mean salient political, cultural, historical and contemporary issues that we encounter and react to each day.
Whether taking a new approach to a classic play or collaborating on new works, BRICOLAGE seeks out environments and opportunities where various components can resonate as one cohesive event, an encounter designed to inspire, incite, and amend in the form of theater. The goal of BRICOLAGE is to connect whats at hand, encourage artists to take creative risks together and to provide the audience a full-bodied and high-quality theatrical experience.
