The Republic of Music with Les Graces Baroque Ensemble
Les Graces Baroque Ensemble presents music from the Dutch and Flemish Golden Age. The wealth of the Dutch Golden Age fostered a public with a keen appetite for music. Composers with both domestic and foreign roots found a market in the Low Countries, where publication and patronage alike were world-renowned. This program explores works by Dutch composers as well as popular musicians from abroad, whose works were loved by musical societies of the Dutch Republic. Serious vocal works by John Dowland, and Francesco Caccini, will be balanced by lighter seventeenth-century arrangements of popular Dutch songs. Instrumental works by Hacquart, Sweelink, and van Eyck round out the program. Les Grâces champions the music of the 17th and 18th centuries and features soprano Jennifer Paulino with Rebekah Ahrendt (viol), Annette Bauer (recorders) and Jonathan Rhodes Lee (harpsichord).
