Kathy's Daughter
Many years spent in the closet, pun intended, Christina Leeds emerges from its doors without a sense of self or a desire to find it. With a bottle of whiskey, some photos, and a notebook, she is determined to figure out the complexities of her baggage with anyone who is willing to listen. She begins to evaluate the platform of her character by examining her childhood ideals of family and a dream not realized. Engulfing herself in episodes of the Cosby Show, Christina cultivates and nurtures her need to have a stable household. Unfortunately, the theme music to these episodes is drowned out by her step- father's violent rage and her mother's need to numb through alcohol. Christina's reflections on life, love, and happiness are evoked by the brief experiences she shares. These occurrences act as snappy memoirs coddled with witty jargon and epiphanic insight. As she recalls these layered encounters, Christina realizes that she embodies the very being she fought so hard not to be, her mother. At the threshold of a permanent decision, Christina, Kathy's daughter, must find a way to face the one person who stands in the way of her having love, happiness, and peace of mind herself.
