Rainforest Celebration
A celebration and party to have fun, educate, and raise money and awareness for the World Rainforest Fund to save rainforest. Finger food will be available for free. Speakers will be David Seaborg, leading evolutionary biologist and environmental leader; Surabi Menon, who shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore as a scientist working on the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change; a representative from International Rivers, a non-profit working to stop destructive megadams in rainforests; and a repepresentative from the Pachamama Alliance, a non-profit working to save rainforest by empowering indigenous people. Talks will be five minutes each, as the emphasis will be on socializing and meeting people. You will have an opportunity to meet and speak with the speakers. In addition, there will be many well-known and interesting people there. The World Rainforest Fund (website: worldrainforrest.org) is a tax-deductible, non-profit organization dedicated to saving rainforest, mainly in the Brazilian Amazon Basin, by empowering indigenous people to save their rainforest homes. A scientific study found that the best way to save rainforest is emopowering indigenous people. The World Rainforest Fund is the most cost-effective organization preserving rainforest, in terms of percentage of donor dollars saving rainforest as opposed to going to administration. Members of its Board of Directors are all volunteer and take no pay.
