Global Rhythms: Marcel Khalife
This world-famed Lebanese oud player, singer and composer brings his Al Mayadine Ensemble to Town Hall to play a new suite inspired by the poetry of contemporary Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, along with favorites from his repertoire that blend the sounds of East and West. Named UNESCO Artist for Peace in 2005 for his artistic achievements and humanitarian work, Khalife has played a leading role in reshaping traditional Arab music into an alluring, universally communicative form of expression. Through his association with great contemporary Arab poets, most notably the renowned Mahmoud Darwish, Khalife seeks to renew the character of Arab song. He will be accompanied by Rami Khalife on piano, Peter Herbert on bass, and Bachar Khalife on percussion. Presented with Arab Center of Washington.
