From the same fertile region that produced Upstate New York's Old Crow Medicine Show and The Horseflies comes Driftwood, a band with a rock n' roll soul and a folk art mind. Carving out a name for themselves with electrifying live performances, they are lighting up the mics throughout the Americana universe at top festivals, clubs and on radio (Mountain Stage, Sirius XM). Drawing on Old-time recordings to 1960's R&B, the music is crafted to serve the songs with upright bass, banjo, acoustic guitar and violin. The group's stage dynamics are as captivating as the songs. "I give so much of myself when I play because I deem it necessary in order to do the music justice", says Byrne, whose violin-shredding performances galvanize fans. "There's a reason people won't let them off the stage", says Jess Novak from The Syracuse New Times.
OPENING SET: The Brooklyn-based, Berkeley-raised piano-violin duo, Gracie and Rachel, combines classical strings with haunting, fierce vocals and spare percussion. They find beauty in stark simplicity and breathe a hint of the abstract into highly emotive, evolved songs. Their forthcoming debut album "Go" provides a heartfelt glimpse into two artists' intertwined lives. From the pit of despair to the summit of success, Gracie and Rachel are always headed somewhere new.
