100 Voices: A Journey Home
USA English Director: Matthew Asner, Danny Gold 91 min. Documentary Directed by Danny Gold and Matthew Asner (son of actor, Ed Asner). An emotional record of a healing mission by 72 cantors and composer Charles Fox to Poland, the birthplace of cantorial singing, or chazzanuet. Performances and prayer at the Warsaw Opera House, at Warsaw's Nozyk Synagogue (Cantors Joel and Ivor Lichterman are sons of the synagogue's last chazzan before the Shoah), and at the gates of Auschwitz. The founder of the Krakow Jewish Cultural Festival speaks movingly about Poland's loss of Jewish culture. Jack Mendelson and Alberto Mizrahi, "the Jewish Pavarotti," sing a bewitching version of "Chad Gadya."
