The Mañana Collective

Javier Zalba (flute, clarinet, saxophone) is one of Cuba's most eminent wind players. Javier's career spans nearly 40 years during which he has played with some of the best names in Cuban music -The Buena Vista Social Club Orchestra, Afro Cuban All Stars, Cubanismo and Irakere to mention a few... After playing to packed houses during a short 1 week tour in 2014, Javier returns to the UK in September. He will be joining his son Jose Zalba-Smith (a flautist and pianist who followed his father's footsteps into both the classical and latin music worlds) touring the UK with a series of concerts, masterclasses and workshops crammed full of traditional Cuban and Latin Jazz music.
The Mañana Collective came about when Cuban flautist Jose Zalba-Smith met some really talented musicians at Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. They bonded over their shared love of Latin rhythm and the rest, as they say, is history! The Mañana Collective love to add Latin American flavour to the mix creating their own arrangements of incredible tunes from Africa, Cuba, Brazil and beyond! Recent performances: CafeJazz Cardiff, Taliesen Arts Centre- Swansea University, Walthamstow Street Festival July 2014 and St James's Piccadilly featuring Javier Zalba.
