Music You Shouldn't Choreograph To
This performance will showcase the works of four Seattle choreographers: Artistic Director Kristen Legg, Marlo Martin of bad marmar dance, Anne Motl of Northwest Dance Syndrome, and Redd Legg Dance company member David Lorence Schlieffers.
Legg's work includes a new piece entitled Unrequited, in which three dancers perform duets with intricately crafted Bunraku-style puppets. Each puppet is manipulated by three dancers dressed in black. These duets depict scenes of unrequited love. Legg will also present a crowd favorite--Second String Superheroes. Five less-than-super heroes dance to music ranging from the Chicken Dance to Holding Out for a Hero.
Marlo Martin has created a beautiful work on seven company members, filled with Martin's signature style of movement. Anne Motl's work is set to the music of Bon Jovi and celebrates her childhood with her loving sisters. David Lorence Schleiffers is creating a work with music he mastered himself. Clad in tutus, the dancers move in sweeping, powerful moves then switch suddenly to small, gestural shapes.
The performance will be held at the Erickson Theatre, May 21-22, 2011. Funds raised will be used to pay music royalties and help cover dancer salaries.
