The Improvised Shakespeare Company returns to New York City for 3 shows only at Theatre 80 in the East Village on May 6th and 7th, 2011.
DESCRIPTION: Based on one audience suggestion (a title for a play that has yet to be written) The Improvised Shakespeare Company creates a fully improvised play in Elizabethan style. Each of the players has brushed up on his "thee's" and "thou's" to bring you an evening of off-the-cuff comedy using the language and themes of William Shakespeare. Nothing is planned-out, rehearsed, or written. Each play is completely improvised, so each play is entirely new!
SHOW HISTORY: The Improvised Shakespeare Company has been performing its critically-acclaimed show every Friday night at the world famous Improv Olympic Theater for over four years and continues to entertain audiences around the globe with its touring company. The ISC has been featured at the Piccolo Spoleto Fringe Festival, the Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival, and the prestigious Just For Laughs festival in Montreal. It has been named Chicago's best improv group by both the Chicago Reader and the Chicago Examiner and has received a New York Nightlife Award for "Best Comedic Performance by a Group". The ISC was recently honored by the Chicago Improv Foundation as its "Ensemble of the Year".
WHAT THE CRITICS HAVE SAID: "The chemistry among the performers was amazing, and their play came together seamlessly. By the time they started to speak in rhyming couplets, the crowd was totally sold...Don't miss them. Seriously." - Time Out New York
"Chicago's rollicking hit show "Improvised Shakespeare" is smart and knowing enough to delight Elizabethan drama fans and charming enough to win over the most avowed Anglophobes." - Centerstage Chicago
"Anyone who still needs convincing that improv can produce an independent piece of capital-A Art would do well to see The Improvised Shakespeare Company. Neither laughter nor amazement is short in supply" - Decider/ The Onion
