Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is there assigned seating at this event?
A: Think of the Garden Party as an al fresco cocktail party--with an abundance of delectable food. While plenty of seating will be available for groups of friends to sit together, the program is informal and we encourage you to mill about the garden, enjoying your company and, of course, the beautiful Japanese Garden.
Q: I'm a vegetarian. Can I make a special meal request?
A: The dinner will be served buffet style. There will be plenty of vegetarian options for the sushi as well as the other authentic Japanese dishes.
Q: Is this event an auction?
A: We are not holding an auction for this year's event. The focus is on the enjoyment of the food, wine, garden and the company.
Q: Is there free parking?
A: The parking adjacent to the garden is free, but the number of stalls are limited. We will have parking attendants onsite to assist you in finding nearby street parking if the lot is full. There will also be a load zone for dropping off and picking up guests.
We highly encourage carpooling, or even better, use of a car service such as Uber to make the evening hassle-free and extra special.
Q: What is the dress code for this event?
A: As the event is on a Friday evening, we have many guests arrive in their usual work attire. If you do, however, own a summer kimono known as a yukata, we highly encourage you to wear it for the evening! The sea of yukata dressed guests in the Japanese Garden is a sight to behold.
Q: What is your rain policy?
A: The Garden Party is intentionally scheduled on the least likely day of the year to rain, according to the Farmers Almanac. The previous four Garden Parties have all taken place in great weather for the occasion. If by chance the weather turns out drizzly, we will set up tents. Short of a truly unlikely weather disaster, the party will go on!
