In the small town of Knapely, Yorkshire, England Annie Clarke losses her husband to leukemia. Her best friend, Chris, inspired by John's speech at the Woman's Institute where he said that "the flowers of Yorkshire are like the women of Yorkshire", and "the
last phase of the women of Yorkshire is always the most glorious", resolves to raise money for the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade fellow WI members to pose nude with them for an "alternative" calendar. The news of the women's charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village. The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie's friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame.
