Classical Music Consort: Handelfest 2011
The CMC's 2011 Second Annual Springtime Handel Festival will train and foster the next generation of Canadian period musicians, while exposing Canadian audiences to beautiful yet little-known music, through its creative, accessible, and affordable programming. Culminating in the Toronto premiere of Handel's first oratorio Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno, the festival will inaugurate a Handel Singing Competition, where 6 young Canadian singers under 30 will have the opportunity to perform alongside the CMC, competing for a $2,000 cash prize in front of a discerning panel and audience. Existing throughout will be a continuing commitment to artistic excellence, the development of Canada's young artists, and building new audiences for classical music.
