Heart Mountain Workshop
Vespertine Opera Theater is proud to present the workshop performance of its first commissioned opera. This daring new chamber opera addresses a dark time in the history of the Pacific Northwest, the internment of Japanese-American citizens during World War II. Adapted from the personal journal of Kara Kondo, Heart Mountain tells the story of her family's forced eviction from their farm in the Yakima Valley and their harrowing imprisonment in the Heart Mountain interment camp in Wyoming. This workshop production will be performed in theLAB@Inscape, inside the re-purposed INS building formerly knows as the Ellis Island of Seattle, where many Japanese American citizens were held and processed before being send to centralized concentration camps. Join us as we explore this new piece in an intimate and historical setting in preparation for its full production to be announced. Do not miss this powerful and incisive look into a tragedy very close to the heart and culture of Seattle.
Our performance space is very small and intimate, and seating is limited. Get your tickets soon to ensure attendance!
