Beatrock Music 5 Year Anniversary Left Coast Tour - HONOLULU
For the past five years, Beatrock Music has consistently released politically-charged, socially conscious and sonically groundbreaking underground Hip Hop. This year, in celebration of the continued success of the label and its artists, Beatrock is embarking on its first full roster tour starting on the West Coast with Rocky Rivera, The Bar (Prometheus Brown & Bambu), Otayo Dubb & Equipto, Power Struggle, Odessa Kane, BWAN and 6Fingers.
Hosted by the label's spitfire lyricist BWAN, with 6Fingers playing his larger-than-life beats between acts, the show promises to keep the crowd energized from beginning to end.
Along with the veteran roster, the label is proud to announce the recent signing of Southeast San Diego's own, Odessa Kane who will be setting off the night with a performance that will answer any questions as to why he's the newest artist to join the camp. Off the heels of his independently released Cuetes And Balisongs (2012), Odessa has been working hard on a few projects, including his debut Beatrock EP - dropping in July.
As one of the first official artists to sign with Beatrock, Power Struggle has released some of the labels most impactful works. The first official release from Power Struggle, Remittances (2010), has become the soundtrack for organizers across the Bay Area. The follow-up LP, In Your Hands, was met with the same support and can be heard at rallies and protests across the Bay over. Nomi of Power Struggle spends most of his waking hours embedded in his organizing work and it reflects in the raw emotion in the way his lyrics are delivered. With a stable of producers to work with, Power Struggle continues to release new music and is getting ready to release a new album in the Fall. Power Struggle's live show carries the same intensity and bounce as the recorded work, so don't miss it!
Otayo Dubb was part of the first official release from the Beatrock Music house as a member of the now-defunct Counterparts crew. His first full-length LP for Beatrock, Cold Piece Of Work (2011) was a great success for the label and added to its impressive catalog. Since then, Otayo has helped steer the label toward the West Coast heavy sounds of the Bay, picking up right where he left off with his start through groundbreaking Oakland rap team, The Co-Deez. With the latest Otayo Dubb work, he's collaborated with another NorCal legend, Equipto (Solidarity Records) to release Baby Steps. As solo artists, both these emcees will bring you back to a time in Bay Area Hip Hop when funk and synths ruled the airwaves; together they've pushed out an album that is 2005 meets 2025. Make sure you get your carbs in, because the pace goes up to level 10 when these two hit the stage.
Prometheus Brown (Blue Scholars) and Bambu like to rap. As the highest-selling duo on the label, they carry a very distinct style with their records, never departing far from what their fans have come to appreciate about their work prior to their collaboration. After the successful release of Prometheus Brown and Bambu Walk Into A Bar (2011), they hit the studio with their DJ/producer, DJ Nphared to record their sophomore group effort, Barkada (2014). As a group, they've opened arena shows for The Dream and Kendrick Lamar, rocked a stadium with Macklemore & Ryan Lewis in Manila, performed in a backyard in Delano, California and managed to upset actress Rashida Jones with their love ballad titled, Rashida Jones. The emotional roller coaster that you are sure to embark on when these guys hit the stage may be physically overwhelming, so hydrate. With Son Of Barkada promising to drop in June, The Bar will be in your mouths all summer.
Headlining Beatrock's inaugural tour is the resident fan favorite, Rocky Rivera. Since her first work on the label, Pop Killer (2011), she's been challenging the normalcy of misogyny and patriarchy plaguing Hip Hop. Through her energetic live shows with DJ Roza and Irie Eyez (collectively known as the GRLZ) beside her, Rocky has amassed an international fanbase she lovingly refers to as her #RockySoldiers. Her debut album on the label, Gangster of Love (2013), was the first project of hers to chart on iTunes and immediately put her name in Top 10 lists all over the internet. Concentrating most of her 2014 on her organizing work in Oakland, Rocky remained quiet for most of that year... Then, in early 2015, Rocky locked herself into the newly-established Beatrock Music Compound and churned out a fascinating 6-song project, Nom de Guerre. A short piece that takes a clear departure from the low-end heavy sonic landscape of her last, her latest endeavor is an anthemic, heartfelt effort with flawlessly executed production.
With the gigantic sound of Nom de Guerre leading the pack, the Beatrock Music Tour guarantees a dynamic night of Hip Hop music with defiant lyrics built for protest and delivered with a pro-people spirit. Get your tickets NOW!!!
