Dust House
For this project, Fly on a Wall immersed themselves in the layers and patterns of an abandoned house in Atlanta's historic West End. Multiple vignettes were created to reveal the intrinsic nature of each room and the ways in which we live in them. Fly on a Wall has collaborated with three distinctive Atlanta filmmakers, Felipe Barral, Kris Valeriano and Alex Zhuravlov, as well as Stephanie Swart, an animation artist from New York City. Each filmmaker was presented with the same physical material. They were given one day to film from their point of view using their individual style. The edited films will be exhibited, side-by-side, to present four unique perspectives on the same work. They will be displayed in the Dashboard Co-op gallery at 31 North Avenue, from May 15th-June 12th. After the opening event, Gallery hours are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7-9pm.
In tandem with the opening of the gallery, on May 15th, Fly on a Wall will perform in Dashboard's adjacent Cube space at 621 Spring St. NW. The Cube will be transformed into a blank canvas to explore imagery of homes past and present and the human expressions that live in them. Fly on a Wall will utilize the choreography created for the house as well as new movement found during the filming process. The performance will consist of two parts: A free prologue will begin at 7pm with viewing from the sidewalk on Spring Street. At 7:45pm the doors will open and ticketed guests will be invited into the Cube to sit and immerse themselves inside the performative installation.
There are additional performances on Sunday May 17th at 8pm and Monday May 18th at 8pm.
