Evocative Objects: Swan Theatre, Worcester
An open workshop, which is part of the AHRC-funded Amateur Dramatics: Crafting Communities in Time and Space research.
Evocative Objects workshops will be held over two dates in two locations, as part of the AHRC Connected Communities Festival:
Tuesday 16 June 11am - 4pm Questors Theatre, Ealing 12 Mattock Lane, London W5 5BQ
Saturday 27 June 11am - 4pm The Swan Theatre, Worcester The Moors, Worcester WR1 3ED
Calling all amateur dramatics enthusiasts, historians, box office volunteers, chairpeople, ushers and performers! The first major research study into amateur dramatics wants your stories! Well, specifically, one object which can be used to share a story or two about your society.
The only requirement is that you have to bring an object with you. This could be: -a pair of tweed trousers with the hem let down four times -a chipped teacup that has been used in 13 different productions -a framed photograph (signed) of the member of the company who 'made it big' -a single torn page from a script highlighted in pink with scribbled notes in the margins.
It could be a sheet of red gel, or a pint glass from the bar, or a ticket stub from your last show.
We are interested in the stories which these objects hold. We will share stories small workshop settings, and they will also be captured using video and audio. The narratives will be compiled into a final album which will be shared as part of the research.
You can register to attend one of the events here. Pre-registration is required, as the event is strictly limited to 40 participants. The day is free of charge and will include a complimentary catered lunch.
Any questions about the event can be directed to E.C.Walcon@exeter.ac.uk.
