RUB-A-GRUB feat. I Love Vinyl @ Do or Dine Backyard // Memorial Day Wknd // Sunday May 24th 2015
Do or Dine and Sound Liberation Front are announcing another season of "Rub-A-Grub", the beats-meets-bites backyard party which has become synonymous with neighborly love and summer good vibes in Bed-Stuy. Now in its fourth year, the annual party series has brought together some of New York's favorite DJs rocking the party to a multi part food and drink menu crafted by Do or Dine's chefs. Past guests have included Ali Shaheed Muhammad, DJ Spinna and DJ Akalepse among others. This year's events will take place on Memorial Day weekend with the return of the I Love Vinyl DJ crew and over Labor day weekend with a lineup headlined by Rich Medina.
Taking place in the restaurant's cozy backyard, each event is an all day sensory experience segmented by a series of curated rounds of food and beats culminating into an all-out dance party. Kicking off in the afternoon, the first few rounds usually feature small plates and appetizers combined with various drinks specials. Past food items have included culinary creations such as nippon nachos, fawtons, frog legs and the restaurant's infamous foie gras doughnuts. The last round of food eventually gets the evening under way with a featured BBQ dish courtesy of the Do or Dine's chef. In the meantime, the special guest DJs will make sure to turn everyone's attention from the kitchen to the dancefloor.
I Love Vinyl was founded by Ben Goldfarb aka DJ Scribe in the Summer of 2009 with five other seasoned djs hailing from NYC, Chicago, Baltimore, and beyond. They had a dream of carving out a sacred space for the music they love and a shared belief in its power. They would play vinyl only because they believed that "the medium is the message". Something about that felt special to them, and they bet they weren't the only ones... There were a few more ground rules. This is how it would work. This is how it would go down: All of the available residents would play every party together. No headliner. No "draw". Just the music, and the way it's played.
One of New York's favorite DJs, Rich Medina will be taking the party on a sonic journey through hip-hop, house, Afrobeat, funk and soul, unearthing one musical gem after another. From NYC to LA to London to Tokyo, and everywhere in between, music lovers know not to miss a club night when Rich Medina is manning the decks.
Do or Dine has been paving an innovative culinary trail in Bed-Stuy since in 2011, receiving wide acclaim for their fun and eccentric approach to cuisine or "fine diving" as the owners coined it. NY Magazine notes, "nothing is as straightforward as it seems. There are (savory) doughnuts stuffed with foie gras mousse, and fried dumplings under a veil of melted cheese an Asian-fied play on nachos."
Sound Liberation Front has been hosting music events in Brooklyn since 2007. From underground parties to large scale productions, SLF events have been featured by NPR, Time Out NY, Village Voice and National Geographic.
