Totally 80's!
RICHMOND MEN'S CHORUS TO ROCK OUT AT "TOTALLY 80S!"
Music That Defined the MTV Generation to be Performed June 11-12

Richmond, VA  Richmond Men's Chorus, the area's premier male vocal ensemble, will conjure up the heyday of MTV during "Totally 80s!," its final concert the season, on June 11 and 12, at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen.
The 1980s was the decade known for "Just Say No," Mary Lou Retton's thrilling performance at the 1984 Olympics, the fall of the Berlin Wall, Pac Man and the explosion of video games, Rubik's Cube, the first home computers, acid-washed jeans, big -- really, really big -- hair, and the cultural phenomenon known as MTV, which thrust music videos into American homes for the very first time.  Pop artists soon mastered this new format and changed the music industry in the process. Michael Jackson's 1982 album "Thriller", thanks in no small measure to the music video it spawned, becameand currently remainsthe best-selling album of all time
"Like most eras, music from the 1980s was one of the most defining and well-known aspects of the decade," said Richmond Men's Chorus founder and artistic director Tim Gillham. "Audiences today are rediscovering that music, and we are excited to bring you a number of our favorites.  We hope you will, like, totally enjoy it .. fer sure."
"Totally 80s!" will be presented Saturday, June 11 at 8:00 pm and Sunday, June 12, at 4:00 pm at the Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, 2880 Mountain Road, in Glen Allen, VA.  Tickets are $15 in advance ($10 for students and seniors) and can be purchased online at www.monumentcitymusic.org; $20 at the door.  There is abundant parking at the Center.
Richmond Men's Chorus was founded was founded by Gillham in 2001.  Its success spawned a "sister" organization, the Richmond Women's Chorus, which was founded two years ago.  The two groups perform separately, and sometimes together, in both concert and cabaret settings in venues throughout the greater Richmond area.
Founder-artistic director Tim Gillham has degrees from the University of Central Arkansas, and has done post-graduate work at Old Dominion University and Virginia Tech.  His choirs have received superior ratings at regional, state and national festivals, have performed with Debbye Turner (Miss America 1990) and Marlo and Danny Thomas in a nationally distributed St. Jude's Children's Hospital video, and won the North American Music Festival.  He has directed the Petersburg Festival Chorus, the Richmond Choral Society and The Society Singers, which performed under his direction at Washington National Cathedral and for the American Choral Directors Association.
Mr. Gillham is active as an adjudicator and arranger. He served as organizer for the Alexander Paley Music Festival, and has prepared the Paley Festival Chorus in 2000 and 2001. He is also a Member of Phi Mu Alpha Professional Music Fraternity and American Choral Directors Association.
