3rd Annual Oaktoberfest
Firestone Walker Fine Ales and River Oaks Hot Springs & Spa will roll out the barrels on September 29 at the 3rd annual Firestone Walker Oaktoberfest in Paso Robles, a fun and flavorful oak-inspired twist on the great German tradition of Oktoberfest. Event proceeds benefit the Hospice of San Luis Obispo County.
Oaktoberfest celebrates the unique flavors of the Central Coast while honoring classic beer traditions, said Jamie Smith, marketing manager for Firestone Walker Fine Ales. The community has really rallied around this event over the past few years. We have added new attractions and were expecting our biggest turnout yet.
Last years Oaktoberfest raised more than $8,000 for Hospice of San Luis Obispo County, and the goal this year is $15,000.
Oaktoberfest will be held at River Oaks Hot Springs & Spa in Paso Robles from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 29. The City of Paso Robles is the presenting sponsor, and Mid State Bank is sponsoring the stage entertainment. Tickets are $35 per person ($40 at the door if not sold out), which includes admission and a first pour from a selection of Firestone Walker beers. Additionally, the first 1,000 people through the door will receive a commemorative 1/2 liter stein.
The multifaceted festivities will include the tapping of a special oak-aged beer, live polka music by Trio Internationale, and a Beer Olympics featuring feats of strength and agility such as keg tossing, barrel rolling and stein racing. Traditional Oktoberfest-style fare will be served by the Hofbrau, Di Raimondos will provide fine artisan cheeses and Rays Own Brand will serve up gourmet sausages. Boyds Fine Tobacco will offer cigar selections.
The ceremonial oak-aged beer will arrive in barrels on a horse-drawn carriage in the company of beer maidens. A Firestone Walker beer tent will be complemented by a German beer tent featuring a variety of German brews. Local wineries will pour their German varietal wines as well.
The Oktoberfest tradition originated in Munich, Germany in 1810 as a two-week festival of food, fun and beer. Oktoberfest is today celebrated around the world as regional breweries release hearty seasonal beers. Cost: $35 ($40 at the door) includes commemorative stein, beer/wine sample card, kit and one beer ticket. Admission is limited to those 21 or older.
