4th Annual North Puget Sound Conference On Race
The fourth annual North Puget Sound Conference On Race (NPSCOR) will take place on Saturday, May 2nd, in Jackson Hall on the Everett Community College Campus. The conference is sponsored by the Communities of Color Coalition working in concert with the Snohomish County Chapter of NAACP, Familias Unidas, YWCA, WSU Extension, Everett Community College, Edmonds Community College, and an array of other community organizations.
The conference theme "A Call To Action: We Need Your Voice" challenges all of us, but especially youth & young adults, to become more aware of race & social justice issues, and to engage in the building of more inclusive communities. The keynote address will be given by Michael Benitez, Dean for Diversity & Inclusion at the University of Puget Sound. In addition to the keynote address, the conference will include three sequential segments focused on individual awareness & growth, community education & advocacy, and organizing for institutional change. Each segment will break into three discussion groups lead by individual presenters/facilitators.
As in prior conferences, the primary focus is providing both information and skills-development opportunities that will help participants return to their communities better prepared to address individual or institutional racism, and cultural or religious intolerance.
