His critically acclaimed play "The Gathering" in 1999, featured Theodore Bikel and Jesse Eisenberg at The 91street Playhouse and Hal Linden at the Broadway Cort Theater in 2001. His 2004 off-Broadway hit "Magic Hands Freddy" was produced at The Soho Playhouse, with Michael Rispoli and Ralph Macchio, published by Samuel French. Mister Shaw's first play "A Catered Affair" was produced off-Broadway in 1995, with producer George W. George. Mr. Shaw's novel, "The Fix", based on his life, was published in 2011 by New Library Tales and his latest play "Moolah" stars Mario Cantone, scheduled to open in New York in 2015. Currently, he is producing rap artist Devon Glover in The Sonnet Man Project, setting Shakespeare's Sonnets to Hip Hop.
Gerry Tenney A Yiddish-speaking Klezmer musician and Yiddish singer, Gerry directed the East Bay Kindershul for 25 years, and currently is the president of KlezCalifornia. A mandolin, guitar and banjo player, he is the bandleader of California Klezmer, The Lost Tribe and the Hard Times Orchestra, as well as a solo performer of children's concerts, and a prolific songwriter. He performed on the stage in the 2014 and 2015 productions of "Di Megileh of Itzik Manger" as part of the Jewish Music Festival at JCC East Bay and also performed at the Pete Seeger Memorial Concert at the Freight & Salvage Coffee House in Berkeley.
California Klezmer represents one of the embers that has helped both keep klezmer music alive and propel it into the 21st century. Bringing together many years of musical experience, the band is equally at home with traditional Yiddish folksongs and instrumentals, Yiddish and Yinglish versions of Rock & Roll songs, and its own original compositions. On a musical magic carpet ride, the band can take you from a shepherd's meadow in Romania, to a wedding in Babroisk, to Yiddish doo wop singing in New York, seamlessly weaving modes and moods.
