Brianna Lane CD Release + Chris Koza & Linnea (of Rouge Valley)
8:30pm doors/9pm showtime
Brianna Lane: A gifted singer/songwriter in true Americana form. She writes and performs on an acoustic guitar as well as a banjo, crafting songs that are clear-eyed and pure with an integrity derived from her gritty, unflinching emotional honesty. May 19th, 2015 marks the release of her much anticipated CD entitled "The Navigators Club".
Long time journalist Jim Walsh recently wrote that Brianna Lane is "...a star in the making. She's poised, ambitious, a great writer, a soul singer of the first order, and an accomplished guitarist."(Star Tribune) Lane grew up in Minnesota and still calls Minneapolis home. In her ten years of touring Lane has shared the stage with Billy Bragg, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Colin Hay, Dar Williams, Patty Larkin, The Weepies, Jennifer Nettles (of Sugarland), and numerous other well seasoned musicians. She also shares powerhouse, leg-powered bicycle tours with Signature Sounds artist Peter Mulvey. Lane has released three full length solo records and one duo EP with Cahalen Morrison as "Harbor Collective".
Chris Koza & Linnea (of Rouge Valley): Known as one of the Twin Cities most dynamic live acts, Rogue Valley is an internationally-recognized band who have released a total of four albums and a vinyl LP since 2010. They perform regularly at top Twin Cities' venues (First Avenue, The Fitzgerald Theater) and festivals (Basilica Block Party, MN State Fair), and have extensively toured the US, sharing the stage or supporting artists like Andrew Bird, Justin Vernon, The Jayhawks, Lucinda Williams, Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, Mason Jennings, Cloud Cult, Brandi Carlile, and Tift Merrit, among others. Their songs have been featured on television for ABC, MTV, and CBS as well as numerous local and national commercials, and most recently Rogue Valley's song, The Wolves and the Ravens, was featured in Twentieth Century Fox's feature film, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, starring Ben Stiller. Paste Magazine calls Rogue Valley one Minnesota's best bands, and they continue to receive critical-acclaim from both local and national press.
In a single year, Rogue Valley, wrote, recorded, and successfully released four full length albums, each one sonically steeped in the season of its creation. Together, the four albums tell a sweeping story of love, loss, regret and hope that is inseparable from the geography of classic American wanderlust. The 46 songs act as chapters, standing strongly on their own, yet creating an undeniably rich experience when taken as a whole. Few bands are so productive in an entire career, yet Rogue Valley and songwriter Chris Koza have realized a breadth of ambition that is beyond simple prolificacy the entire series stands out for its dynamism, craft, impeccable production and fantastic songwriting.
Imagine Ralph Waldo Emerson and Jeff Tweedy sharing a dugout canoe across a calm river; Jack Kerouac and My Morning Jacket sitting around a campfire; John Steinbeck and Fleet Foxes hitch-hiking along county roads and highways from coast to coast. Rogue Valley makes music that fills a dynamic spectrum, from surging electric guitar rock to woodsy finger-picking ballads. The unifying trait throughout is the band's soaring, lush vocal harmonies that lift the cinematic arrangements to emotional heights.
