First Congregational Church of Oakland 150th Anniversary Celebration
A powerful worship celebration featuring Sista Monica Parker, Praise Power & Company, East Bay Anointed Voices, Reign n' Me, Dominique Word, and the First Congo Music Ministry.
----
Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. once said "it is appalling that the most segregated hour of Christian America is eleven o'clock on Sunday morning." One church that is bucking this trend is the First Congregational Church of Oakland, where diversity rules and love is first.
To celebrate First Congo's 150th anniversary, we are holding an expressive arts worship celebration and reception. The event will feature gospel music, spoken word poetry, and liturgical dance by artists including Sista Monica Parker (winner of the Monterey Bay Blues Festival Artist of the Year), Anointed Expressions Mime Ministry, Praise Power & Company, East Bay Anointed Voices, Reign n' Me, Dominique Word, and the First Congo Music Ministry. The event will be hosted by the captivating Reverend Gary Harris.
Children nine and under will be admitted free. Bring your family, friends, and significant others to celebrate with us! All are welcome. Browse the craft faire, eat great food, and get your praise on!
First Congo is an open an affirming church that welcomes people from all ethnic backgrounds and sexual orientations. Come join us as we celebrate 150 years of worshiping God, celebrating diversity, working toward justice, and serving the community.
