Music Changes the World benefit concert for the Diversity Center Santa Cruz
We are pleased to welcome you to a evening of beautiful music by Sherry Austin with Henhouse, Christie McCarthy and Rhan Wilson, in support of the Diversity Center of Santa Cruz. 100% of all proceeds raised will go to support the Diversity Center's important work in our community.
Sherry Austin and Henhouse
After twenty years of caring for others, Sherry Austin reached for her guitar and inside her soul to create songs that let her voice and wisdom shine. She tells simple, insightful tales - sometimes sad, always sage, and ever so slightly amused by it all. With all that energy released, Sherry formed Henhouse and brought together some of the most popular Americana vocalists in the Monterey Bay area. Henhouse delights with their engaging stage presence, upbeat songs, and great harmonies. The band is fronted by Sherry on rhythm guitar and vocals, Sharon Allen on vocals and guitar, Tracy Parker on bass and vocals, Jim Norris on percussion, and Santa Cruz legend, Patti Maxine on lap steel and dobro. Their music covers the range from sweet love songs to gritty, rockin' songs about cars, trains, and love gone wrong. They sing with authority and passion, their distinctive blend of folk, country and rock is filled with warmth and conviction. The band performs original songs written by Sherry and Sharon Allen, as well as much loved covers by Kate Wolf, Townes Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith and more. The blend of harmonies between the four women is exquisite. http://hensinthehouse.com/
Christie McCarthy
Christie McCarthy is an award-winning singer-songwriter and solar executive. The bridge between music and renewable energy isn't as far reaching as one would suspect. With rich vocals and a serious flair for wordsmithing, Christie has been honing her message of peace and personal responsibility for over two decades, performing for hundreds of audiences at diverse venues nationwide, from nightclubs and concert halls to coffee houses, spiritual retreats and corporate events. After graduating UC Berkeley with a degree in History, Christie began recording her large catalog of original songs and quickly garnered critical acclaim which landed her on a Sharper Image compilation (along with Norah Jones and Diana Krall) and several other high profile projects for Target Stores, Wells Fargo, TV and movies. In 2010, Christie wrote and produced the music video Rise & Shine for the solar industry. That same year she co-founded Solar Battle of the Bands, which just celebrated its fifth consecutive year in San Francisco as the most highly regarded event in the solar industry. http://www.christiemccarthy.com
