Second Sunday Concert Series - Men of Letters: Adrian Verdejo, guitar and Catherine Laub, soprano
On April 12, guitarist Adrian Verdejo is joined by soprano Catherine Laub in a program entitled, Men of Letters, featuring music by Argento, Brahms, Carter, Schubert and Sibelius.
Adrian Verdejo is a guitarist living in Vancouver, Canada. He performs as a soloist and with the Victoria Guitar Trio and the Erato Ensemble. As an in-demand freelance guitarist, he has also performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Turning Point, Aventa Ensemble and many more. Verdejo is a Classical Guitar instructor in the music degree program at Vancouver Community College.
Born into a musical family, Adrian played guitar from an early age. In his hometown, Regina, he performed both as a classical guitarist and as an electric guitarist in metal and punk rock bands. Verdejo completed a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Victoria and a Masters of Music from UOttawa studying with Dr. Alexander Dunn, Stephen Boswell, and Patrick Roux.
Adrian Verdejo performs many works spanning the guitar repertoire and has commissioned and premiered several new pieces. He specializes in contemporary music with equal fluency in classical and electric guitar styles.
His debut solo album, Modern Hearts New Music for Electric Guitar, is available on the Redshift Music Label. It was included in Vancouver's weekly news and entertainment magazine The Georgia Straight as one the Top Albums of 2014.
In 2006, soprano Catherine Laub moved to Vancouver from New York and has since become an integral part of the city's musical life as a performer, educator, composer, and arts administrator. An active recitalist and oratorio soloist, Catherine is also a member of the a cappella trio, Kallisto, the Vancouver Chamber Choir, and the Windsong Trio. She and her partner, pianist Rita Attrot, specialize in chamber music and German and French art song. Catherine completed a BM in voice at Indiana University in 2001 and an MM at Westminster Choir College in 2003, both with distinction. As a choral singer, Catherine has performed with Apollo's Voice, the Vancouver Chamber Choir, musica intima, Stellaria, and with the New York Philharmonic under such conductors as Neville Marriner and Riccardo Muti as a member of the Westminster Choir. Catherine maintains a private voice studio in Burnaby and is an active member of NATS, the National Association of Teachers of Singing. She composes and arranges for a variety of forces and is currently participating in the conducting of a mentorship program with Elektra Women's Choir under Morna Edmundson. About the Second Sunday Concert Series: This concert is part of a monthly concert series, taking place on the 2nd Sunday of each month, in the afternoon. Come at 1pm, for Tea and Tour before the concert (included in the price of the ticket), or show up right before 3pm for the concert, at your convenience.

Parking spots are scarce in the neighbourhood, so give yourself some extra time or use public transportation. (Closest Skytrain station: Burrard. We are on the #5 Robson bus route)
