Frida Kahlo
Teatro Espejo's production of "Frida Kahlo" creates for its' audience a true understanding of how this artist's work evolved. From the images of flowers and fruit painted on canvas when she was young to paintings that reflect both her physical decay caused by a railing that shattered her spine in an accident and her roller coaster relationship with the famous Diego Rivera, we witness her torment and success. And, through dramatic narration by Frida with the help of her "Judas," a demon like replica of the paper mache devils burned in Mexico during festivities, we develop a true understanding behind why she chose to create these strange images on canvas. We learn to understand the true Frida. A Frida that even through her tears of suffering, we find love, laughter, and an unyielding love for her "Diegosito."
Other activities surrounding this production include a Frida "look alike" contest for both adults and children on April 12&26 as well as raffles and other activities. All proceeds are used to help fund future productions of Teatro Espejo.
