Young@Heart 3rd Annual Mash-Up
Get ready for the 3rd installment of Young@Heart's ongoing series of collaborative Mash-Up concerts pairing our chorus of 73-90 year olds with the best elementary, middle, and high school music groups in the world.
This year we welcome the internationally renowned Young People's Chorus of New York City (YPC) and the one and only SciTech Band, the pride of Springfield.
YPC is a multicultural youth chorus known for its superb virtuosity and brilliant showmanship. Almost 1,400 children from ages 7 to 18 participate annually through YPC's after-school program. Founded by Artistic Director Francisco J. Núñez 27 years ago, YPC is a groundbreaking program that harnesses the power of music to fulfill the potential of every child. The repertoire of the YPC ranges from renaissance and classical traditions to gospel, folk, pop, contemporary, and world music. YPC was named New York's first radio choir by WNYC and is in residence at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
SciTech Band aka The Springfield High School of Science and Technology Band Program is renowned as one of Massachusetts' top music programs. Known to city residents as "The Pride of Springfield", the SciTech Band has grown from 20 students to over 500 since 2007. Perhaps more importantly, students who join the band for more than one year are more than twice as likely to graduate high school. With a strong student leadership team and under the direction of Gary R. Bernice, the SciTech Band is now empowering students to give back to their community by sharing the joy of music.
Prepare to be inspired by an afternoon of uplifting and entertaining live music.
